The Emotionally Intelligent Leader Workshop

Duration

4 hours

Synopsis

Increasingly we are coming to understand that the skills and attributes associated with emotional—rather than cognitive—intelligence are important predictors of an individual’s ability to succeed in meeting the demands of leadership in complex organizations. The Academy for Academic Leadership offers a variety of professional development programs in emotional intelligence. Through these programs, the components of emotional intelligence are described and explored, and participants have opportunities to evaluate their own emotional intelligence competencies. Participants examine the manifestations of emotional intelligence in academic work environments, and gain an understanding of how these competencies can be learned and used to improve workplace effectiveness. The Academy’s Emotionally Intelligent Leader Workshop is one of its most popular programs in this area.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the skills and attributes associated with emotional intelligence.
  • Self-evaluate one’s skills in five realms of Emotional Intelligence, or EQ-I: the Intrapersonal, the Interpersonal, Adaptability, Stress Management, and General Mood.
  • Describe the manifestations of EQ-I in academic work environments.
  • Understand how EQ-I skills can be learned and used to improve effectiveness in the workplace.
